What you didn't know about collagen

What is collagen and why is it important?

Collagen is a protein which is the most abundant in the human body, and makes up the main component of skin, bones, hair, nails as well as other structures in the body. The collagen particles are tightly packed together and form long, thin fibrils acting as a support mechanism for cells to provide strength, elasticity, rigidity, and toughness to its respective structure. There is an array of different types of collagen, providing different functionalities. These range largely from joint support, bone health while supporting connective tissue.

What causes collagen depletion?

From around the age of 20 years, collagen production declines and collagen stores are further depleted due to lifestyle factors. Lifestyle factors may contribute to the faster reduction of these stores. Smoking, excessive sun exposure, and stress are among some of the common causes of decreased collagen production. The problems associated with such low levels could increase the visibility of wrinkles, premature aging, joint and muscle pain combined with a loss of skin elasticity and joint health. This is why the market is highly focused on delivering collagen supplements through foods, liquids, and pharmaceutical products to aim at prolonging integumentary health.

What is Ovoderm®?

Ovoderm® is a highly powerful, science-backed ingredient comprised of pure eggshell membrane. This patented product is rich in collagen type I, V, X and naturally contains elastin and hyaluronic acid. Compared to bovine and marine collagen sources, a smaller 300 mg dose of Ovoderm® eggshell membrane collagen has been found to be effective, making it easy to administer the effective dosage in capsule form.

Clinical studies have been completed on Ovoderm® and have shown the capability of the ingredient to help increase skin elasticity and firmness, reduce wrinkle production, as well as assist with recovery on sun damaged skin while improving endogenous collagen synthesis. Interestingly, two studies have been conducted using 300 mg a day. The findings were as follows:

  • After 60 days of Ovoderm® consumption, there was a 66% improvement in skin firmness and a 13% increase in skin elasticity compared to the placebo.
  • Another study showed that a period of 5-weeks consuming Ovoderm® there was an improvement in skin elasticity and hydration while reducing skin pigmentation.

There are many benefits which can be experienced from the use of collagen. Evidence of it playing a vital role in skin firmness and texture, bone health and hair quality to have been recorded. The importance of a healthy, protein rich diet as well as well as skin protection and stress control must not be ignored.  FoodGrown Vegetarian Collagen with Ovoderm® may greatly assist with your integumentary health. At a low dosage of just 300 mg, combined with healthy lifestyle habits, you have the potential to revitalise your beauty and health from the inside out!
